New to Arizona? Here’s What You Need to Know
Every year, millions of “snowbirds” migrate to Arizona during the winter for our warmer climate. Oftentimes, our seasonal guests decide to become permanent residents. If you are one of these snowbirds yourself or are just new to Arizona, there are some things you need to know about becoming a resident.
New to Arizona? Visit an ADOT 3rd Party Provider – AZ AUTO.
In 2017 alone, 43 million visitors came to Arizona, and many of them decided to make their stay permanent. For those of you new to Arizona, the first place you’ll want to stop after getting settled is an authorized 3RD Party ADOT (Arizona Department of Transportation) MVD Provider. 3rd Party locations offer extended hours and are open evenings & weekends with no appointment requirement. Skip the wait often experienced at state ADOT MVD offices.
This is where you will obtain your new Arizona driver’s license (including the option for a REAL ID). You can also title and register your vehicles here as well.
Getting Your Arizona License Plates
Now that you’ve made the decision to take advantage of the year-round balmy climate Arizona has to offer, it’s time to change your license plates to your new home state. In order to make your registration process quick and easy, you’ll need to bring a few items with you:
1. Your out-of-state title – if your title is currently held by a lienholder, you may bring in your registration only
2. Proof of identification – your Driver’s License works for this
3. For leased vehicles – you’ll need to provide an authorization from the Lessor to register in Arizona with your out of state registration
4. If applicable – a lien clearance
For Tucson (Pinal County), Phoenix or Maricopa County residents: you must provide an Arizona emission compliance form. Vehicles 1967 and newer and more than 5 years old require emissions. Emission locations and more information can be found on this here.
